Who we are

About GILCCRHT

Prior to 2006, there was a deep desire to introduce the mode of worship Charismatic members were used to (back in Africa) in the city of Houston. For Catholic Charismatic immigrants, there was a need to bring down our charismatic mode of worship which was lacking in this side of the world and many renowned catholic charismatic members were visiting and attending fellowship in Pentecostal and other “non-denominational” groups as their mode of worship mirrors what they were used to back home in their charismatic fellowships. They needed to fill the gap and this was provided by these groups. In 2006, Brother Michael Anasi and Sister Theresa Ify Omeludike who were active members of Catholic Charismatic fellowship back in Nigeria decided to come together and find a way to bring people together and begin this fellowship in Houston.  They knew it would be an uphill task because of several possible road blocks. One of such would be the location for this gathering as well as how to get the people together. They then started by going in search of the location and this they did by calling and visiting various parishes and asking to use a space for fellowship.  While some parishes refused outrightly, others explained that their spaces were fully occupied for other programs.

THE LORD IS WITH THEE

GLCCRHT, A fellowship FOR ALL

Then sometime in April/May of 2006, the Spirit led them to St. Albert Catholic Church and they met and spoke with the then Parish Priest, Rev. Father Phillp Wilhite and told him their intention. Father Philip listened attentively, asked them several questions and finally discharged them with a promise that he would get back with them. True to his word, he communicated with them and demanded a written proposal of the group which included questions like what the group was all about, what was the anticipated number of members, what days would it be meeting weekly, how long would the weekly meetings last and who would be the administrators. Sister Theresa and Brother Michael sat down and diligently responded to these questions and sent them back to Father Philip via email. They then waited patiently for Father to get back with them. A few weeks later, Father Philip responded and to the joy of Sister Theresa and Brother Michael, he informed them that the Parish Counsel of St. Albert Catholic Church met and after a careful review of the proposal presented, they decided to approve the proposal in order to give us Africans the opportunity to fellowship in a style we did back home in Africa! This was a pleasant surprise and could only have been possible by the help of the Holy Spirit.

They both decided to name the fellowship “GOD IS LOVE” and it has remained so ever since, praise God! Immediately that same week, precisely on Saturday, JUNE 3, 2006, Sister Theresa and Brother Michael met together in St Albert Catholic Church, held hands together and prayed and thanked God for the formation of the fellowship. That very first fellowship was attended by just Sister Theresa and Brother Michael but the next Saturday, by word of mouth, about 5 people joined, and more kept joining every week. In short Acts 2:47 came alive as the Lord kept adding to the number. Today God is love has grown very much in number and Brother Michael had since left to start a new one as well as other charismatic groups. The Holy Spirit continues to propel Catholic Charismatics towards EXPANSON! All glory to God, Charismatic fellowship, the Nigerian way, is no longer a new thing in the city of Houston!

God is love Advisory

The Christian leader exists to serve the believers or, in the case of a fellowship, the members. Though not elected, the God Is Love Fellowship advisers too, are regarded as leaders. This Advisory group consists of senior or established members of the fellowship many of whom have served as elected leaders, some even as coordinator or assistant coordinators, and were selected to be advisers by the current coordinator. As advisers, they have no voting right or decision-making role at the leadership level, and they primarily advise the coordinator or the leadership of the fellowship who seek their counsel or wisdom on important issues concerning the fellowship.
